Simply From The Heart was created by Jackelyn Kastanis following the death of her childhood best friend, Brooke Bolley, who passed away at age 27 from esophageal cancer complications.

Witnessing Brooke's hospital experience revealed the psychological toll of extended stays and treatments. Jackelyn discovered that simple gestures — lipstick, nail polish, and conversation — significantly brightened Brooke's daily outlook.

Despite her background in cosmetology and hair styling, Brooke faced hospitalization having declined chemotherapy to preserve her hair, which was central to her identity. When confined to a hospital bed, Jackelyn promised: “If you can't get to the salon, the salon will come to you.”

Jackelyn watched her friend get stripped of life's everyday pleasantries. The sterile hospital environment — charts, machines, and medical staff — compounded Brooke's suffering. Spa treatments, makeup, and pedicures helped restore her sense of self and encouraged social interaction.

Following Brooke's passing, Jackelyn felt called to something greater. While previous work felt like merely jobs, involvement with this cause made her feel “an irreplaceable part of this world.”
